Riisfort ESG report 2023-2024 - Flipbook - Side 10
Environmental (E)
Our footprint
As a company that acts as an intermediary between suppliers
and customers, our carbon footprint is primarily influenced
by the activities over which we have direct control, as well as
the indirect emissions which originate from our supply chain.
Our own carbon footprint mainly stems from our
transportation activities and our energy consumption.
Transportation accounts for a large part of our carbon
emissions as we use our own fleet of trucks to deliver goods
to customers over long distances. This means that we are
highly focused on optimising fuel efficiency and finding
alternative transport solutions between us and our suppliers
– such as rail transport, for example. We are also in the
process of implementing a plan to replace our current fleet
of trucks with electric trucks, and this will have a significant
impact on our ability to reduce our direct climate footprint.
For this reason, we are in continuous dialogue with our
existing suppliers to find alternatives and to improve our
material selection. At the same time, we are also open
to working with new suppliers who can offer innovative
solutions. In this way, we try to take small, concrete steps
that both strengthen our product range and contribute to a
broader transition in the industry.
When it comes to energy, we are conscious of our
consumption of both electricity and district heating.
Although we are not an energy-intensive company in the
traditional sense, we are nonetheless working to optimise
our energy consumption and increase the share of renewable
energy we use.

As a wholesale company, one of our biggest challenges is
managing our indirect carbon emissions – Scope 3 – which
primarily originate from our supply chain. This is where the
biggest footprints are often found, and so we are working to
help find solutions that can reduce this impact. We know that
our influence is limited as we only make up a small part of
our suppliers' overall customer portfolio, but we believe it is
important that we contribute where we can.
Although we are still at an early stage of the process, we are
proud of the progress we have made. Every step we take
matters – both for our company and for our value chain. We
believe we can make a real difference and help drive a more
responsible form of development in our industry. And we are
determined to continue this journey – one step at a time.
