Freight by train from Southern Europe
Another new initiative that we have placed focus on this
year is our decision to start shipping purchased goods
by train from southern Europe, as a part of our efforts to
reduce carbon emissions in Scope 3. Rail transportation is
a less carbon-emitting option compared to traditional road
transportation as it enables the transportation of larger
volumes of goods at a time, and with a significantly lower
carbon footprint per unit. However, it also requires a more
extensive degree of coordination and planning to ensure
logistics run smoothly.
Getting goods to their destination on time requires close
collaboration with both suppliers and logistics partners.
Rail transportation often involves longer delivery times
and more complex route planning, but we consider it to
be an important investment in allowing us to reduce our
overall carbon footprint, while still maintaining high delivery
reliability.
In the future, we will continue our work to further reduce the
carbon footprint of our freight. Among other things, we will
achieve this by expanding the use of rail transportation and
by continuously optimising our logistics solutions to make
them even more efficient.
